Lecturer in Physical Geography, Maynooth, Ireland

Maynooth University in County Kildare, Ireland, seeks an excellent academic to join the staff as a Lecturer in Environment-Human Interactions (Coastal/Ocean Systems and Dynamics).

This appointment will extend the community of scientists within the University working in the areas of Physical Geography and Global Environmental Change. We recognise the importance of coastal environments, where, in fact, the majority of the world’s population lives. For instance, in Ireland the majority of the population, most economic activity and critical infrastructure exist at or near the coast.

The new lecturer will add to our understanding of, and our teaching and research on these environments. The complexity and interaction of environmental and social change in coastal environments requires contributions from a particular type of scholar – a geographer - capable of understanding the connections between the physical and the social sciences. Their own research will perhaps be primarily focused upon one part of this set of relations but it will be undertaken with an understanding of its wider setting and in teaching the Lecturer will be cognisant of the broader set of interactions comprehended as a geographical synthesis.

This is a permanent position.

The application deadline is 18 June 2017. All initial enquiries must be sent to Faculty of Social Sciences Head of Department, Gerry Kearns: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
