An international summer school titled "From xylogenesis to dendroecology: dendrochronology, quantitative wood anatomy and stable isotopes" will be held in Naples, Italy, from 25-29 September 2017.
The school is open to a maximum of 30 participants who are graduate or post graduate students, young researchers, professional foresters, or forest consultants. The locations will be Portici and Caserta in Naples, Italy.
The summer school will provide knowledge and tools to study and interpret environmental "signal stored" in wood based on a multidisciplinary approach: from xylogenesis to quantitative wood anatomy, tree-ring measurements, and tree-ring stable isotopes. It will show how understanding the dynamics of wood formation in response to environmental factors is pivotal to forecast forest response to ongoing climate changes.
The course will include theory, fieldwork, and hands-on laboratory sessions. Students will be involved in all aspects of sample preparation and analysis, as well as data interpretation.
Tuition for the course is 450 Euro, to be paid by each participant on being informed of their acceptance. The fee covers the course costs and accommodation in two-to-three-bed rooms, and breakfasts and lunches during the whole course period (check-in Tuesday 26 September 2017, check-out Friday 29 September 2017). A few single-bed rooms are also available at an extra cost. They will be assigned according to the "first-arrived-first-served" rule.
